Villa Description

A privately owned 11-acre estate dating from 1740, Fustic House is set on a ridge above the Caribbean coastline, where trade winds cool the air, a mere 200 paces from the water. Re-designed in the late 70's by Oliver Messel, Fustic House has sublime views of the Caribbean sea and the west coast.

The privacy, location and splendour of the gardens designed by Todd Longstaffe-Gowan provide a tropical escape that rejuvenates the senses, and the exemplary cuisine (regarded among many as the best on the island) prepared by Fustic's private chef, Mr Stephen Bredemear, make this home unique amongst the great properties of the Caribbean.

There are 7 luxury suites, each beautifully appointed and equipped with either super king or double queen beds, air conditioning, and Bose sound systems.

The accommodation is housed in four separate wings: there are two suites in the Great House, two in the Plantation Wing, two in the Messel Wing and one in the Pavilion.

The kitchen amenities are worthy of any restaurant along with the Butler's pantry. The world famous Oliver Messel lagoon swimming pool, is carved from the coral stone ridge and complemented by a large sun deck over the Tropical Ravine, from which the quiet, sandy beach is just a 5 minute walk.

Fustic House is masterfully designed for indoor-outdoor living, and the large terrace, multiple sitting areas and dining room provide ample opportunity for entertaining. The 14 exemplary staff at Fustic House will do their utmost to make your vacation at this unique home a memorable one.

    Pool: Yes

Fustic' spectacular pool is carved out of coral stone and surrounded by lush overhanging vegetation making it feel more like an undiscovered lagoon than a swimming pool. The huge pool deck is dramatically built over the tropical ravine and has panoramic views of the Caribbean sea.

    48ft x 17ft; 3ft at shallow end and 6ft at deep end.

The Fustic estate has 11 acres of beautifully tended gardens featuring an array of exotic species from Mahogany trees to Frangipani, Pride of India, Flamboyant and Ylang Ylang. There is also some remarkable fauna including Barbados Green Monkeys, Egrets, Humming Birds and Fireflies.

Exploring Fustic's 11 acres is a delight in itself- paths lead you from the deep shade of the ravine to the lotus lake and the water garden, through the sunny vibrantly coloured orchid walk to the calm stillness of the meditation gazebo. Everywhere you look there's a different vista to experience. Even Fustic's owners still discover new things - an Arawak cave system has recently been uncovered consisting of several caverns, some of which are over 10 metres high with naturally formed stalactites.

Just a quick note to say a massive and heartfelt thank-you for what has been the holiday of a lifetime. Fustic House was incredible, not only because of its awesome style and location but because of the superb staff who looked after us like kings, and were the most friendly lovely people we could hope to meet. We were all overwhelmed by the service, by the beautiful accommodation, and by all the arrangements. When we departed on Wednesday not only were my sisters crying but so were all the maids and cooks who had become such good friends!!!

This is a wonderful house which inspired a game which we have left behind for others to follow.

Play the game and you will see the magic of this property!
